| The Oklahoma Metro Football League was founded in 2007 to help semi-pro football teams in Oklahoma grow, develop, and reduce the over-all expense of managing their teams. Two existing teams, the Oklahoma City Gunners and the Oklahoma Force were joined by three new teams, the Norman Nitro, Shawnee Millers, and the Stillwater Outlaws. The inagural season ended with a thrilling championship between the leagues most established team and its newest. |

For the 2009 season, the league was revamped into a corporation and is now wholy owned by the teams that compete in the league. Bylaws were established and an executive board was put in place. The league brought back four of the teams from the inagural season and welcomed the startup of four other new teams. In addition, two teams made the switch from the Central Football League. By the end of the season, 9 teams were competing for the 6 playoff spots. It ended with the Stillwater Outlaws making their second championship appearance and playing against the first year Oklahoma Maddogs. The Outlaws beat the Maddogs 45-14 to win Metro Bowl II.
